Penobscot Valley Hospital cutting costs

March 3 - Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln will lay off 10 full-time employees and implement a number of other cost-cutting measures to offset losses from decreasing revenues over the past few years. The hospital is one of the town's largest employers. In fiscal years 2012 to 2014, the hospital's operating losses totaled $1.2 million. Serving 14 area towns, Penobscot Valley Hospital has seen admissions decline from 1,102 in 2013 to 929 in 2015.

It has not yet been announced which positions will be cut. Temporary hiring and capital purchasing freezes are in effect, along with limits on travel and educational opportunites for employees. The hospital is working with Health Access Network to ensure survival of both health care providers.
