Penobscot County Federal Credit Union robbed

March 28 - Penobscot County Federal Credit Union in West Enfield was robbed about 8am this morning. The suspect, a white male,  had not been apprehended as of 10:45 am.

LP&T intellectual property sold to Gordon Brothers

March 25 - A bankruptcy judge has cleared the sale of Lincoln Paper & Tissue's trademarks, patents and other intellectual property for $75,000 to the consortium of liquidators that recently purchased the company's equipment.

A group of former employees had hoped to delay the sale of the intellectual property to keep papermaking capacity at the mill until someone could be found to purchase and operate the mill. 

Now that Gordon Brothers has purchased the patented methods, product recipes and software, they will be able to sell off equipment that uses those assetts.

Art contest at PVH

Pemobscot Valley Hospital Marketing Director Kristie Libby hands out balloons at the art exhibit and yogurt parfait party held at the hospital.

March 22 - Another in a series of contests for young artists was held at Penobscot Valley Hospital, with certificates presented to participants at a yogurt parfait party held tonight at the hospital. The art on display at the hospital  has brightened the hallways for patients and staff. For a photo slideshow, CLICK HERE.

Another art exhibit is already being planned, so watch for more art to appear at the hospital soon!

The ice is out!

March 19 - It's a new record! The ice on Mattanawcook Pond went out today, the earliest since records have been kept (1930). Andrea Kneeland of Lincoln Motor Company confirmed that the ice is officially gone. It's nice to see blue water again! The earliest previous date for ice-out on the local pond was March 24, 2010.

Penobscot Valley Hospital cutting costs

March 3 - Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln will lay off 10 full-time employees and implement a number of other cost-cutting measures to offset losses from decreasing revenues over the past few years. The hospital is one of the town's largest employers. In fiscal years 2012 to 2014, the hospital's operating losses totaled $1.2 million. Serving 14 area towns, Penobscot Valley Hospital has seen admissions decline from 1,102 in 2013 to 929 in 2015.

It has not yet been announced which positions will be cut. Temporary hiring and capital purchasing freezes are in effect, along with limits on travel and educational opportunites for employees. The hospital is working with Health Access Network to ensure survival of both health care providers.

 

Scouts enjoy Chillout

March 1 - Boy Scout Troop 50 spent the end of February vacation taking part in "Jedi training" at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington during a Star Wars themed Chillout. Due to a lack of snow, some usual events did not take place but the boys still seemed to have a good time.
