Lincoln area Christmas 2011 page dedicated to George Worcester

November 21 - Christmas is a time of year when children of all ages remember the Christ child born 2,000 years ago. And, they look forward with anticipation to Christmas morning to see what Santa has brought them for being such good boys and girls throughout the past year. Christmastime is also a time of joy and fun as our thoughts also turn to sugarplum fairies, snowmen, candy canes and the overall excitement of the events leading up to the BIG day. And, Santa Claus!

Since the mid-1980's there has been one individual in the Lincoln area who truly epitomized the "spirit" of Santa Claus and Christmas for young and old alike - George Worcester. Over the years I've photographed George hundreds of times as he brought joy and wonderment to thousands of area children each December. My favorite is one taken several years ago, which is featured here. For those of you who are not from this area, you can read all about "Santa Claus" in a story we did when we first started the Lincoln, Maine, area web site by CLICKING HERE.

George passed away this fall. Although he wasn't the "real" Santa Claus, there certainly was something real about his portrayal of the legend that made some wonder and he will be missed each year as the leaves turn to brown and the ground turns to white. He loved children, as does Santa, and his devotion to the holiday and to the youngsters of our area will not soon be forgotten. With that in mind, Connie and I happily (and merrily) dedicate this year's Christmas page on the Lincoln area web site to his memory. Yes, kids, there really is a Santa Claus, and many of us were honored to have caught a glimpse of him in George Worcester!

Colonial Health Care residents enjoy Christmas party

Mrs. Santa Claus!

December 22 - Residents at Colonal Health Care in Lincoln were treated to a festive Christmas party this afternoon. Although Santa Claus was unable to attend the event, he sent Mrs. Claus to represent him. We suspect that there are so many good children here in Lincoln that Santa has to work extra hard to be sure they each get a present this year.

Jennie and Friends entertained the residents with Christmas music, and many of the residents' family members and friends stopped by to celebrate the season. CLICK HERE for a slideshow!

Senior Citizens enjoy dinner at K of C Hall

December 8 - The Knights of Columbus hosted their annual Christmas dinner for senior citizens today at the K of C Hall in Lincoln. Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and dessert were served by 8th grade students from Mattanawcook Junior High. Santa and Mrs. Claus were there to hand out gifts, and Bingo games were held afterwards. Jennie and friends sang Christmas songs, adding a festive touch to the dinner.

Scouts hold Christmas party

Cub Scout Pack 50 of Lincoln held their annual Christmas/Holiday Party on Thursday, Dec. 8, at which time they brought in donations of new toys for the local Toys for Tots campaign. Here the scouts, leaders, and committee members are shown with representatives of Lincoln's Toys for Tots. The boys also enjoyed ice cream sundaes, skits, songs, a visit from Santa, and awards around the "fire". We want to wish everyone a very Joyous Holiday Season and a fun filled New Year!!

December 4 - Lincoln Paper and Tissue hosts a wonderful Christmas party for all their employees' children and grandchildren at Mattanawcook Academy every year. We were pleased to be invited again this year, and took plenty of photos for all of you to enjoy. CLICK HERE for a slideshow!

Town's Christmas Tree Lighting

December 3 - The lights on the official Town of Lincoln Christmas tree and surrounding trees were turned on this evening as a crowd of people looked on. Nancy Kinkade's 5th grade class entertained the onlookers with carols. At the end of the countdown, the lights blazed to life and the crowd cheered. Lights now also illuminate the gazebo, and a smaller tree inside the gazebo.

2011 Lincoln Breakfast with Santa

December 3 - Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa was in Lincoln this morning to have breakfast with local kids, and he had quite a crowd on hand this morning at the MA cafetorium. The M.A.D.E. dancers presented the Nutcracker story, and traditional breakfast goodies were enjoyed by young and old alike. Santa took the time to sit with each little one to hear their Christmas wishes. CLICK HERE for a slideshow!

Lincoln Memorial Library Christmas Open House

December 3 - The Lincoln Memorial Library hosted an Open House today, with goodies, window displays and plenty of holiday decorations. We were there to bring you some photos. CLICK HERE for a slideshow!

Lincoln Historical Society holds Christmas party

November 29 - The Lincoln Historical Society held its Christmas party tonight at their museum on West Broadway. Christmas decorations, goodies and games added to the festive atmosphere as 28 members and guests enjoyed celebrating the holiday season together. Mittens and school supplies for local kids in need were collected for distribution this winter at Ella P. Burr School.

Outgoing president Jeanette King expressed her appreciation for all the work done by the members and promised to help the new president, Dottie Harding, as she begins her leadership of the LHS.

Lincoln is fortunate to have such an active historical society to keep our past alive. New members are always welcome. Please consider joining to be a part of their efforts.

Lincoln gives Santa a big welcome!

NOVEMBER 26 - Lincoln, Maine welcomed Santa to town with its largest parade yet, as several hundred area kids (of all ages) lined West Broadway and Main Street to see the jolly fellow. With temperatures in the low 40's, many took advantage of the nice evening weather to go on horse drawn wagon rides and/or mingle with the crowd and several vendors' exhibits that were on display in the square on Main Street.

 

Santa stopped by and made sure every youngster (even me) who wanted to got a chance to tell him how good they've been all year. The parade was organized by the Lincoln Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce, and they did a super job.

 

Next Saturday the Town of Lincoln will light the town Christmas tree, and kids are invited to have breakfast with Santa up at the high school in the morning. Tickets for that are available at the Lincoln Town Office.

Home Town Holiday Experience 2011 Shop Local Campaign

Several area businesses are participating in the Chamber's Holiday Decorating Competition. Businesses were asked to decorate their windows or do an outdoor display. Customers are invited to vote for their favorites. Ballots are available at all participating business. Just go into the following businesses to vote for your favorite in one of three categories. Best Window Display, Best Outdoor Display, and Best Overall which can include a business's indoor holiday decorating as well. Winners will hold a trophy for one year from the Chamber.
